American Council on Education. Preparing for a Potentially Tumultuous Fall on Campus: A Conversation with a Former President, General Counsel and Campus Police Chief Who Have Been There Before. [Issue Brief] (2024). https://www.acenet.edu/Documents/Preparing-for-Fall-2024-on-Campus.pdf
A recent issue brief (July 2024) by the American Council on Education (ACE) provided an excellent dialogue among senior leaders in higher education from several major colleges and universities to discuss the likely upcoming political tensions on campuses. The interview included four individuals with collective experience as a college president, chief legal counsel, dean of a law school, and campus police chief. The wide-ranging discussion included both contemporary and historic challenges such as the civil rights movement of the 1960s and ‘70s as well as more recent protests around the Middle East conflict. The conversation is full of lived experiences and legal complexities that are important for all senior leaders to consider as we move into the 2024–25 academic year.
