This article highlights interesting international student trends over time. There was a slow decline in international students during Trump’s first term in office and then a sudden drop off with the arrival of COVID. The academic year 2022-2023 saw a rebound with more international students than ever before. However, the makeup of these students has changed. Today, more than half of these students are graduate students. While Chinese student enrollment peeked in 2018-2020, Indian students have steadily increased and today Indian students outnumber Chinese students. Other South Asian and African countries also show significant growth. The outlook can change with ongoing regulatory changes.
